RICS South Asia Awards 2022/2023

The RICS Awards showcase the most inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction and infrastructure. They recognise outstanding achievement, teamwork and companies.

We have been delighted by industry response to the inaugural RICS Awards South Asia – with the calibre of submissions so far demonstrating the highest standards of professionalism and ethics by individuals and teams across the built and natural environments.

There have been a high number of requests from local industry for additional time to prepare submissions and to change the timing of the Awards Dinner, to enable participation in this inaugural Awards programme. The decision has therefore been taken to extend the nominations window until 17 February 2023 with the winners announced at the official ceremony in mid-2023. Teams and individuals that have already entered remain eligible for the Awards and may continue to amend their submissions until the new closing date.

We invite individuals, teams and organisations from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Maldives and Nepal to nominate their achievements, professionalism and ethics to the world stage and showcase the best of the built environment from South Asia.

All shortlisted nominations will be promoted across the APAC region and winners will be showcased as the top performers in South Asia. Be sure to check relevant updates to the entry rules and submit your nominations in time to share your story and achievements with the industry.

Important Dates

The deadline for submissions has been extended to COB Friday 17 February 2022. Nominations should be submitted via the Awardsforce platform  and must be received by RICS by the deadline.

Shortlisted candidates will be announced on 05 June 2023.

The winners will be announced in July 2023 (exact date TBA).

Details of the Awards Dinner will be announced in due course.

Best Affordable Housing Project Award

 

This award is for affordable housing projects as defined under various government schemes. The evaluation for this award will be based on innovative design, spaces, amenities and value for residents. The project should be completed in the 2020, 2021 or 2022 calendar year.

Best Co-Working Space Award

The Co-working Space should include scale-able office spaces, cafeteria, conference rooms and leisure components plus the latest technology. It should demonstrate excellence at a conceptual, development and delivery level. The project should be under construction or completed in the period 2020, 2021 or 2022 calendar year.

Best Infrastructure Project Award

Awarded to a contractor or client for timely and cost-effective completion of large infrastructure projects like roads, bridges, ports, airports, etc. The parameters of excellence include quality, safety, speed, cost effectiveness and value engineering.

Best Real Estate Project Award

This award is to recognise builders and developers who have delivered projects in time and to specifications deriving high customer satisfaction. The project needs to have been completed in the 2020, 2021 or 2022 calendar year. The projects should cater to middle and high income group categories.

Corporate Social Responsibility Project Award

This award demonstrates excellence in the application of corporate social responsibility values and ideas to create better places and spaces for the community, the environment and future generations. This award is for those who have invested in people, society and the community without any benefit to their main line of business.

Facilities Management Team Award

Awarded to a company, team or consortia responsible for the delivery of outstanding facilities management services. These services might ensure functionality, comfort, safety and/or efficiency of the built environment by integrating people, place, process and/or technology. The award is open to facilities management service providers or teams within property owner organisations who are delivering services in-house.

Project Management Team Award

Acknowledging companies, teams, in-house teams, the service provider or contractors who were engaged in project management of a construction project during 2021 or 2022. The successful applicant will demonstrate excellence in such areas as quality control, time management, budget control, procurement and commercial management to deliver the outcome sought by the client.

Real Estate Agency Team Award

 

 

This award acknowledges companies, teams and/or consortia demonstrating excellence in providing agency services related to the acquisition, sale, or leasing of properties in the office, retail, industrial or residential sectors.

This award recognises teams involved in valuation services which uphold international standards and give confidence to end-users for their objectivity, independence and reliability on both commercial and/or residential projects.

Special Category Team Awards

Sustainability Award

This award demonstrates how innovation, design or construction techniques have been utilised by a team or client to address environmental challenges and improve the sustainability of the project outcome.

Innovation Award

Future proofing the profession is a key challenge in a time of rapid changes. The Innovation Award recognises teams, companies and consortia engaged in developing innovative solutions, to sustain the profession for the future.

Individual Awards

Construction Professional of the Year

Presented to an outstanding individual for excellence in quantity surveying, project management, land or building surveying or building control. The Construction Professional of the Year award recognises achievement in construction projects during 2021 or 2022. The successful candidate will demonstrate how their work has combined the highest professional, ethical and industry standards to deliver superior results and outcomes for clients and stakeholders.

Property Professional of the Year

Presented to an outstanding individual involved in valuation, property management, facilities management, valuation or acquiring/selling or leasing a commercial, industrial or retail property. The Property Professional of the Year award recognises achievement in property projects during 2021 or 2022. The selected professional will represent the highest professional ethics, demonstrate their use of standards in their day to day activities and embody the excellence expected of the recipient of such a prestigious award.

Young Achiever of the Year

 

 

The future of our profession rests on the shoulders of emerging professionals. The Young Achiever of the Year Award acknowledges one outstanding individual who has achieved excellence in their field. The individual selected will embody the highest standards of professionalism, be a role-model for their peers and be capable of making an outstanding contribution to the profession in the course of their future career.

 

The individual must be 35 years old or younger during the 2021 or 2022 calendar year (i.e. must be born on or after 1 January 1986).

Woman of the Built Environment Award

The Woman of the Built Environment Award recognises the outstanding contributions and achievements of senior women to our industry. The award celebrates inspirational role models to inspire the next generation of diverse professionals. Women from all disciplines of the industry are encouraged to enter.

Lifetime Achievement Award

Recognising commitment to RICS and the wider profession, the Lifetime Achievement Award is the most prestigious award for built environment professionals.

The presentation of this award is subject to the determination of a panel that the recipient is worthy of this significant honour.

 

 

Judging Criteria

The judging panel will consider nominations against the following criteria, weighted based on the category of the award.

All nominations should demonstrate a commitment to professional ethics and a commitment to the highest ideals of professionalism. Further details about RICS’ commitment to ethics can be found at rics.org/ethics

Team awards

Nominations in the team awards category are assessed with a weighting against five categories:

  • Professionalism – 30%
  • Outcome and achievement – 25%
  • Teamwork – 25%
  • Innovation – 10%
  • Sustainability – 10%

Special Category Team Awards

Innovation Award:

Nominations for the Innovation Award category are assessed with a weighting against five categories:

  • Innovation – 40%
  • Outcome and achievement – 20%
  • Professionalism – 20%
  • Teamwork – 10%
  • Sustainability – 10%

Sustainability Award

Nominations for the Innovation Award category are assessed with a weighting against five categories:

  • Sustainability – 40%
  • Outcome and achievement – 20%
  • Professionalism – 20%
  • Teamwork – 10%
  • Innovation – 10%

Individual awards

Nominations in the individual awards category are assessed alongside two overarching criteria:

  • Recognised outstanding performance and achievement in the workplace; and
  • Recognised contribution to the profession and the wider community with a weighting against four categories, which are:
  • Outcome and achievement – 40%
  • Professionalism – 30%
  • Innovation – 20%
  • Sustainability – 10%

Professionalism

  • Use of surveying knowledge and/or professional expertise in areas such as technical, financial, legal, environmental, building regulation, sustainability and restoration where applicable, to achieve outcomes.
  • Demonstrated adherence to RICS ethics.
  • Demonstration of using the most appropriate procurement method for engaging contractors and suppliers (if applicable).
  • Demonstration of the ability to resolve disputes.
  • Demonstration of how international standards have been adopted will be an advantage.

Outcome and achievement

  • Measurable success of nominated initiative(s)/project(s)/team(s) against a predefined target.
  • Challenges overcome in the process relative to complexity. What were the or unique challenges? How were these challenges overcome?
  • Cost effectiveness. How was cost managed effectively against a target?
  • Client satisfaction and positive social impact.
  • Timely completion. Demonstration of how the project is managed effectively with respect to time?
  • How to minimise disruption to the ‘neighbours’?
  • Submission of letter of commendation will have bonus marks.

Teamwork

  • Effective coordination of skillsets among team members and with stakeholders.
  • Demonstration of how to minimise abortive works.
  • Resources optimisation. How were resources effectively pulled and utilised to overcome the identified challenges and difficulties against a predefined target.

Innovation

  • Was an innovative approach used to deliver the outcome?
  • Was any innovative outcome generated?
  • How was technology applied to deliver the outcome?
  • Any innovative technology applied to enhance site safety (if applicable)?
  • Any smart information technology applied for document control and communication to enhance productivity?

Sustainability

  • Quantitative analysis on sustainability considerations and achievements.
  • Demonstration of creating better places and spaces for future generations.
  • Demonstrated adoption of sustainable development principles.
  • Social Impact. How did the nominated team promote and educate stakeholders about sustainability in the community and improve the community more broadly?

Entry Rules

Team and company awards

  1. Nominated project(s) and major/key team member(s) must be located or operated in the Awards region being submitted for.
  2. Nominations can be made by the nominee (team, company or consortia) or a third party.
  3. The project(s) which is the subject of the nomination must have been worked on within the 2021 or 2022 calendar year, though not necessarily completed (Excluding Best Affordable Housing Project Award and Best Real Estate Project Award categories. For these two categories, the projects must have been completed within the 2020, 2021 or 2022 calendar years).
  4. Nominations must be based on at least one but no more than three projects within the 2021 or 2022 calendar year (nominating party to select).
  5. A company may submit a joint nomination however, where a joint nomination is submitted a subsequent, stand-alone application from the same company, on the same project(s) and in the same category is not allowed.
  6. Nominations must be submitted via the online submission platform. Where multiple nominations are being submitted by the one organisation, a separate online submission will need to be completed for each nomination.
  7. Nomination must be accompanied by a 100-word summary in word file for marketing purposes.
  8. Other relevant supporting materials/documents are optional but welcomed. These should be limited to a maximum of three additional pieces of supporting material/documents and three testimonials, all in PDF format.
  9. A logo must be provided as well as a photo of the team or individual nominated. This will be used during award presentation.
  10. Information provided within the submission may be used by RICS for the purpose of the judging or promotion of the Awards. Any confidential information must be clearly stated within the submission.
  11. The jury panel’s decision on eligibility of the nominations shall be final and is non appealable.
  12. Any category which receives less than 2 nominations will not be awarded a winner, exceptions made at the Judge’s discretion.

Individual awards

  1. Nominated individual must be currently located/operating/have worked in the Awards region being submitted for.
  2. The project which is the main subject of the nomination must have been worked on within the 2021 or 2022 calendar year, though not necessarily completed. However, submissions for the Woman of the Built Environment Award and Lifetime Achievement Award can reference achievements throughout the nominee’s entire career.
  3. Nominations must be based on at least one but no more than three project(s) (nominating party to select).
  4. Nominations must be submitted via the online submission form. Where multiple nominations are being submitted by the one organisation, a separate online submission form will need to be completed for each nomination.
  5. Nomination must be accompanied by a 100-word summary in word file for marketing purposes.
  6. Other relevant supporting materials/documents are optional but welcomed, should be limited to a maximum of three additional pieces of supporting material/documents and three testimonials, all in PDF format.

Young Achiever of the Year Award

  1. In addition to the individual award criteria, the Young Achiever of the Year must have been born on or after 1 January 1986 (i.e. be aged 35 or under during the 2021 or 2022 calendar year) to be eligible.

Nomination check list

  • An online submission is completed for each nomination.
  • For team awards, at least one but no more than three projects have been included in the nomination.
  • Supporting material may include testimonials, photographs, technical documentation, media clippings, floor plans, etc. to support the adjudication process.
  • Supporting material is limited to three individual materials and no more than three testimonials.
  • In addition to the nomination and supporting materials, the nomination is accompanied by photographs of the team/individuals nominated, the project(s) nominated and includes a copy of the nominee’s company logo (as appropriate).
  • Confidential information is clearly labelled ‘RICS Awards in Confidence’.

Step Two: Prepare your submission materials

Each submission must be accompanied by specific submission materials, which will be reviewed by the judges.

Your submission should include:

  1. Region and category you are submitting for.
  2. Nominator and Nominee contact details.
  3. Main body of nomination – this should clearly explain the project, demonstrate a connection to the judging criteria and show a commitment to professionalism and ethics (showcasing at least 1 but no more than 3 projects that the team/individual has worked on). This is where you want to make it clear to the judges exactly why your submission is deserving of the award. Please note that this will not be a PDF upload, you will need to complete free text sections within the online form, including an introduction and responses to each applicable element of the judging criteria (professionalism, outcome and achievement, teamwork, innovation and sustainability). Word limits have been applied to each free text box in accordance with the criteria weighting. We recommend drafting your responses within a word document and then copying and pasting them into the online submission form.
  4. Up to 3 testimonials (1 page each, PDF upload)
  5. At least one photograph of the nominated team/individual and up to 5 additional photographs of the nominated team/individual and/or project(s) referenced in the submission.
  6. Up to 3 pieces of other appropriate supporting material, such as technical documentation, media clippings, floor plans, videos, etc. (Maximum of 4 pages per piece of supporting material)
  7. Your company logo.
  8. A 100-word summary of the nomination for marketing purposes – what the project was and how the team/individual has showcased excellence (free text section within the form).

Step Three: Submit your nomination

You do not need to complete your nomination in one go, you will be able to save your progress and return to it later, while the submission window is open.

Nomination fee

A fee of INR 3000 + GST(18%) will be collected for each nomination and is non-refundable. This nomination fee includes two tickets to the South Asia Awards Dinner in 2023.
