The RICS Awards showcase the most inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction and infrastructure. They recognise outstanding achievement, teamwork and companies.

Congratulations to all winners and finalists for RICS Awards 2022 Southeast Asia, who each demonstrated industry leading achievements and have shown high standards of professionalism across the built environment in Southeast Asia.

During the recent announcement week, it was also our pleasure to announce Chan Kok Hong FRICS, as the recipient of the most prestigious award for built environment professionals, the Lifetime Achievement Award.

    Nominated for: Innovation Award

    The team led by Palany and Irwin successfully implemented an intelligent remote inspection solution that utilised 360-degree cameras to overcome limitations in site inspections and improve documentation and coordination. Undertaken on 2 sites for a commercial developer client the team’s comprehensive training and guidance, both projects saw substantial improvements in both productivity and site safety. Working on a collaborative basis demonstrating professionalism and a commitment throughout by being to open feedback from all parties which they acted on to further improve the existing solution. Client was highly appreciative of the quick follow up on their feedback that materialised within weeks.

    Aligned to the Singapore Government’s push for Design for Manufacturing and Assembly as part of the Industry Transformation Map, Aurecon has been a strong advocate for the design of engineered timber structures in the region, a highly sustainable and innovative method of construction. In their latest project, the Nanyang Technological University (NTU)Academic Building South, Aurecon was engaged by NTU to deliver civil and structural engineering services. Tapping on our strong track record, technical expertise, and proactive collaboration with all stakeholders, the team overcame a myriad of unique challenges to bring the client’s vision to life.

    CBM Solutions Pte Ltd

    In February 2021, CBM Solutions was engaged by CDL to exploit energy-saving opportunities of air-side air conditioning system at Republic Plaza. There were 148 sets of AHU. Spearheaded by Er. Teo Hwee Yean, together with Energy Auditors Mr. Pang Zi Hao and Mr. Hasmuni, a Proof-of-Concept (POC) to upgrade the moving parts for the 22 years old AHU at Level 15 was carried out. The conventional AHU with power-to-air efficiency of about 60%, was upgraded with axial fan of about 85% power-to-air efficiency. All existing non-moving parts were refreshed and re-conditioned ensuring minimal Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) and attractive Return-On-Investment (ROI).

The team has successfully advised and assisted in the execution of key emission reduction measures, autonomous tech, and proprietary CBRE tech products to boost efficiency and cost savings for our valued clients.

    Nominated for: Facilities Management Team of the Year

    Bank Danamon, a member of MUFG, appointed Colliers Indonesia Facilities Management (FM) team in January 2016 to provide FM services for their Head Office. The FM Team took a strategic role not only in delivering FM services but also being the lead team to achieve Danamon’s Environment Social and Governance targets. In addition, the Team played a key role to achieve Green Building Platinum certification from GBCI, set high standards in complying with all laws and regulations including ISO, HSE, health protocols, and was awarded the “Mitra Bhakti Husada Award” by The Minister of Health Republic of Indonesia in 2021.

    Nominated for: Project Management & Building Consultancy Team of the Year

    This was a fit-out project with an area of 11,000 sqm and five floors. The project was postponed in 2019 and continued in 2020 with a “new normal” design. The biggest challenge of the project was the fact that the construction was in the midst of a spike in COVID-19 pandemic cases and an increase in the government’s level of restrictions. The result was that our project delivery was a success, and we were able to complete the project as per our client’s expectations. The office has become a social media trending topic on the dream office for millennials.

    The community project is an important addition to the Bukit Batok estate as it is aligned with the Council’s vision to create an environment that incorporates all three generations, promotes healthy living and greener spaces. Its success will be essential to strengthen the community spirit and forge closer bonds within the precinct. The team exceeded expectations as the project was completed even with the occurrence of pandemic. They manage to turn the challenges faced into value-adding opportunities to digitize and optimize their operational processes to make further improvements.

    Established in Vietnam for more than 15 years, HCMC Valuation Co. Ltd has been one of the most respected real estate valuation practices in the industry, specializing in appraisal services that help our clients make informed and strategic business decisions. Within the submission of this nomination, we will demonstrate our capability and achievement through a notable ongoing project conducted for Vingroup Corporations from 2012 to the present time. Our work for Vingroup Corp. spans all 64 cities/provinces of Vietnam, and totals 150 properties of various types.

    Nominated for: Project Management & Building Consultancy Team of the Year

    Established in Vietnam for more than 15 years, the Project & Development Services team has been a trusted partner for occupiers and  investors to manage their capital expenditure and project delivery in Vietnam. We leverage our global networks and local experience, prudently optimize capital expenditure and deliver integrated design, project and construction management services for our clients. Within the submission of this nomination, we will demonstrate our capability and achievement through the notable project conducted for Suntory Pepsico from 2021 to now.

     


    Gammon Pte. Ltd.

    Nominated for: Innovation Award

    Gammon's Sentosa Sensoryscape project features a series of novel, picture-worthy vessel-like structures. Each of the vessels has its own expression, stimulating five senses such as sight, sound, smell, taste and touch. The structures are an engineering feat where the conventional method of erecting steel tower support is challenging. Gammon engineering team developed a new innovative method; self-support climbing bracket, that greatly improves the element installation process. In terms of Safety, Sustainability, Productivity, Cost and Manpower, the solution has greatly benefitted the project and given assurance to all the stakeholders.

    JLL Singapore’s Office Leasing Advisory (OLA) team continued to lead the industry in 2021 as the largest commercial leasing team in Singapore. In this submission we showcase our commitment to RICS principles through case studies of three of the biggest and most defining deals brokered by our OLA team over the past year. This includes delivery of high professional standard of work to our client, acting with complete honesty and transparency, showing our commitment to diversity in the workplace and using initiatives including property technology to improve the general standard of the properties that we manage.

    JLL Property & Asset Management team continued to lead the industry in 2021 as the largest service provider in both Asia Pacific and Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines. We are confident that we have demonstrated our commitment to RICS principles through our case studies from Southeast Asia in this submission. We will always put forth our best efforts to provide our clients with high professional working standards, acting with complete honesty and transparency, demonstrating our commitment to diversity in the workplace, and leveraging our initiatives powered by intelligent real estate technology to benefit our clients.

     

    JUBM Sdn Bhd

    Nominated for: Nominated for: Quantity Surveying Team of the Year

    The KVMRT Putrajaya Line (KVMRT2) is one of the biggest ongoing Urban Rail project in Malaysia. JUBM is the Quantity Surveyors for 26km of elevated guideways and 18 stations, managing approximately USD1.5bil in construction value. The Project Delivery Partner procurement model converted mid-construction to a Design and Build contract after considerable value engineering. The procurement model and conversion posed many challenges. Despite pandemic times, these challenges were overcome through the diligence, experience and innovative approach of the JUBM QS Team in supporting the Client. Phase 1 of the SSP Line successfully opened on 16June2022, and fully operational by early 2023.

     

    Knight Frank Malaysia Sdn Bhd

    Nominated for: Agency Team of the Year

    Knight Frank’s professionalism and expertise delivered the project – the largest corporate office leasing take-up for BCP in Klang Valley during 2021– on time. Clear communication with the client on strategy and direction helped establish an operational presence away from the city centre, at a tenancy acquisition of approx. 160,000 sq. ft. by a local bank during the lockdown. A multi-disciplinary approach was developed for the client and in its implantation, Knight Frank was able to leverage on its team members and technology to take this project from start to finish.

     

    Linesight

    Nominated for: Quantity Surveying Team of the Year

    Linesight was engaged to provide full cost management services for one of the largest data centres in Singapore, reinforcing the country’s position as one of the top data centre markets in the world. The diverse, agile and high-performance Quantity Surveying team based in Singapore demonstrated deep technical expertise which has been instrumental in successful project delivery and meeting the Client’s speed-to-market goals. This success led to supporting the Client’s other projects in Hong Kong and other expansion markets, thus contributing to the technological growth and advancement of Southeast Asia as the fastest-growing datacentre region.

     

    Santos Knight Frank

    The pandemic has been a challenging time for medical institutions in the Philippines, with new infections reaching 2.4 million nationwide in 2021. Despite the trials of the pandemic, Santos Knight Frank’s Integrated Facilities Management team employed a series of results-driven programs to support one of the country’s top hospitals, delivering high-calibre services and achieving outcomes that benefited the institution and patients during such a turbulent time.

    Nominated for: Property Management Team of the Year 

    Santos Knight Frank’s Property Management team has been appointed to oversee 14 properties developed by Robinsons Land Corporation, one of the Philippines’ renowned real estate companies. During the pandemic, the team worked with its clients and stakeholders in addressing key challenges amid the threat of Covid-19, acting as frontliners in protecting close to 9,200 families across the portfolio.

     

    Savills Singapore

    Nominated for: Sustainability Award

    As a multi-national real estate consultancy company, Savills offers transactional advice, property management, consultancy and asset management expertise. To support its sustainability vision, Savills Earth was established to support clients on their sustainability, energy and carbon strategies globally. Savills provides properties and facilities management services to Southeast Asia region including more than 170 properties in Singapore. Amongst them, there are buildings that have Green Mark /LEED certification with onsite team ensuring high building performance. Within the team, there are many Green Mark accredited professionals who have contributed to sustainability effort as a global firm and commitment to improve climate-change.

     

    SMM Pte Ltd (Member of Surbana Jurong)

    Nominated for: Innovation Award

    Dealing with obstacles, an example is the lack of suitable solutions in the market, SJ Digital Facilities Management Team took on the challenge to develop an innovative solution to meet the client’s requirements of a Digital FM platform. The resulting solution is the 24k platform which has an open architecture design that allows seamless integration of multiple software to optimize and improve the overall performance of its usages. It leverages on a network of sensors that provide information to be aggregated, analysed, and acted upon in a comprehensive data architecture providing intelligent services to manage smart facilities and buildings.

     

    Sodexo Services Asia Pte Ltd

    Nominated for: Facilities Management Team of the Year

    The Sodexo team deployed IFM operations at a major pharmaceutical manufacturing site during the early stages of Coronavirus without operational impact. The Sodexo IFM team has demonstrated loyalty, respect, transparency and the spirit of service delivery. Success has been possible through building strong relationships with the client and working in collaboration to ensure the business needs are met. This nomination highlights the extensive work that Sodexo has undertaken to embed the IFM programme on-site.

     

    Surbana Jurong Consultants Pte Ltd

    Nominated for: Quantity Surveying Team of the Year

    We as Quantity Surveyors (QS) have brought automation and improvement to the BIM process by providing improvement in the quantification process in terms of speed, accuracy, and learning while collaborating with the BIM team. The QS team has also adopted ISO 19650 and the BIM 360 Common Data Environment to collaborate with Designers for quick quantification and cost deliverables to clients for decision making. The QS team has achieved the feat of reducing time spent by 40% with the use of quantity take-off tools, enabling the team to excel in the "phygital" environment with automation in quantification and cost deliverables.

     

    VAS VALUATION CO., LTD in association with CBRE Vietnam

    Nominated for: Valuation Team of the Year

    CBRE Vietnam would like to nominate VAS Valuation Team for RICS Southeast Asia Awards 2022. Even through a challenging period, VAS Valuation Team contributed significantly to CBRE Vietnam’s business and the industry. VAS Valuation Team have built a strong team who have displayed great teamwork spirit, skills, professionalism and dedication. We believe we have one of the best valuation teams in Vietnam in term of service provided, business results, standards and professionalism, and we believe VAS Valuation Team deserves RICS Southeast Asia Awards 2022.

    Nominated for: Woman of the Built Environment Award

    Professor Datin Sr Dr. Hamimah Adnan is a helpful, caring, resourceful person. She has demonstrated an extraordinary contribution to her faculty and university community and to the public. She is an outstanding academician, and a Professor to the Centre of Studies for Quantity Surveying Centre, faculty and university. She often performs above and beyond and always offers her expertise and strategises with her skills to navigate challenges and meet with industry too. She is a true champion for higher research activities, innovation and industry linkages. I am happy to nominate Professor Datin Sr Dr. Hamimah for Women of the Built Environment Award 2022.

     

    Eugena Braganza, Arcadis Malaysia / JUBM Malaysia

    Nominated for: Young Achiever of the Year

    Eugena Braganza is a young Associate Director in Arcadis / JUBM group who was selected as the Cost Manager for the shows, rides and theming components of the Genting Skyworlds Theme Park project. The value of these components alone is well in excess of USD400 million. This is NOT  traditional QS works as we know it. Costings was derived from developed cost models using past data analytics. Intellectual Property rights had to be procured. Procurement methods were not conventional. Eugena rose to the challenge and upskilled to match the Client's requirements. The park opened to the public in February 2022.

     

    Glenda Ho, Turner & Townsend

    Nominated for: Woman of the Built Environment Award

    A design and project manager by profession, Glenda has more than a decade of experience in both public and private sectors, governed by the five RICS ethical standards. Glenda has a reputation and proven track record in handling a spectrum of complex arts and culture, mega scale aviation infrastructure and nature park projects and data centres.

     

    How Weng Kong, Surbana Jurong Consultants Pte Ltd

    Nominated for: Property Professional of the Year

    I deserve this prestigious award because I have fostered closer bonds with our clients and customers, and we have utilized Info commtechnologies and digitalization in our daily engagements. We are more tolerant of delays and setbacks due to Covid-19. Our meetings are more frequent through the use of video conferencing software. We are confident that all facilities under our care will be safer, greener, productive and of high quality in the new normal.

     

    Ju Bogyoung, Bintai Kindenko

    Nominated for: Construction Professional of the Year

    In bidding for the CCS (Centralized Cooling Plant) owned by Singapore Power(SP), Ju Bogyoung and the Bintai tender team were in a difficult situation to continue the bidding due to the COVID-19 outbreak. However, without succumbing to such circumstances, the efforts were made by quantifying the impact of COVID-19 as much as possible, such as changes in major material sourcing areas and the impact of strengthened measures against COVID-19 spread in order to overcome/minimize COVID-19 impact, reflecting impacts to the bid-process. All this information was shared, through several meetings and persuasive negotiations with the client, the project was successfully awarded under COVID-19 situation.

    Leonard Lee, Soben

    Nominated for: Construction Professional of the Year

    At Soben, we differentiate ourselves from the market by adopting technologies to help the client in their digital transformation through cost and programme management. We advocate the use of standard mainstream market solutions, like Deltek Acumen and Oracle to help our clients to manage their projects, as there will be continuity in support for such platforms. However, we have both the capability and flexibility to customise solutions to suit individual client requirements if necessary.

     

    Rozila Abdul Rahman, Arcadis Projeks Sdn Bhd

    Nominated for: Woman of the Built Environment Award

    Rozila Abdul Rahman is the first female Market Head appointed by Arcadis NV (Amsterdam listed) to head its Malaysian operations. She is also the first female Asian (together with 9 others) selected into the company's Bellevue Foundation from a staff of nearly 27,000 over70 countries. The Bellevue Foundation represents the company employees at the highest level of Corporate Governance. Rozila is an accomplished Project Manager as well as a Chartered QS, working with many blue-chip clients. She introduced communicative technologies into her projects to help facilitate progress, minimising disputes and establishing safety as a key performance indicator in construction.

     

    Sr Nazirul Fariq bin Mohd Kassim, Glodon Company Limited

    Nominated for: Young Achiever of the Year

    A dynamic quantity surveyor with strong analytical skills. Nazirul Fariq was intensively involved throughout phases of various types of projects including mega infrastructure projects. His versatility and strength in business knowledge make him a key player in the development of the construction industry towards digital transformation. He has contributed several publications in the area of quantity surveying, project management, and BIM. He demonstrates a strong commitment to the advancement of future quantity surveyors by giving lectures and speeches to the universities as well as the industry in the region. He is currently doing his PhD at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

     

    Wee Keng Boon, C&W Services (S) Pte Ltd

    Nominated for: Young Achiever of the Year

    Keng Boon is an innovator, especially in Township Management, and recognized as the FM Young Leader 2021 by Singapore International Facilities Management Organization (SIFMA). Pioneer of many firsts, he engages the community and various partners regularly to implement innovations within the neighbourhood. Continuing his momentum, Keng Boon recently led the Paperless Ecosystem and Upcycling of Decommissioned Train parts. The projects improve key processes and promote sustainability across the neighbourhood. The reduction in waste resulted in a lower carbon footprint in the long run and brought about greater awareness among residents. These projects received positive feedbacks by all stakeholders.

     

    Yeoh Cheng Yow Jake,  Z L Construction Pte Ltd

    Nominated for: Construction Professional of the Year

    Jake Yeoh is a Chartered Building Surveyor from ZLC. He is also a passionate builder, surveyor, and educator embarking on a journey to revolutionize the way buildings are marketed traditionally, with a blend of technology, brick and mortar, and fundamental skillsets. Jake aims to offer valuable insights to sellers and buyers, boost the success rate of real estate agents, elevate the standards of the built industry, as well as promote the core values and pillars representing RICS.     Chief Executive Officer, Savills South East Asia

    Having arrived in Asia in 1990, Chris has lived in both Hong Kong and Singapore and covered most markets and disciplines in the Asia Pacific Region. Presently as CEO for South East Asia, Chris oversees the firm's activity and expansion plans in the region, in addition to managing the Singapore operations. Alongside his operational responsibilities he sits on the Asia Pacific Executive Committee which determines strategic direction for the business in the region.
    During his time he has played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Singapore operations in 1995, and subsequently restructured the business in 2004, in addition he has been involved in, or led numerous corporate acquisitions and strategic relationships for the group.
    More recently Chris has taken an active role in how technology can be leveraged within Savills and the broader real estate industry.In a professional capacity Chris has acted for many investors, developers, occupiers and end-users in many aspects of their real estate needs.

    Ho Swee Sun is the lead for Cost Management for Program, Cost, Consultancy at AECOM Cost Consulting and Project Management Singapore.
    He leads a team of close to 100 professional quantity surveyors and brings over 30 years of experience to this role, working on building and civil engineering works of various types, sizes, complexities, and procurement arrangements. End market sectors covered include commercial real estate, residential, education, healthcare, infrastructure, aviation, sports, hospitality, recreational and industrial.

    Recently awarded the RICS Southeast Asia 2021 Property Professional of the Year and RICS Southeast Asia 2020 Innovation award. Johnny Goh has over 20 years of accumulated experience in corporate real estate, facilities management, infrastructure renewal, sustainability, and project management. He has managed diverse portfolios spanning the corporate workplace, healthcare, hotels, residential, commercial and government facilities. Throughout his 20 years career, he has managed more than 90 commercial and mixed development buildings across Asia.
    In his current role as the Vice President and Head, Corporate Real Estate Services (CRES) in IHH Healthcare Singapore, Johnny leads corporate and operational functions such as Facilities Management (FM), Environmental Services (ES), Corporate Security, Biomedical Engineering (BME), Real Estate and Workplace (REW), Environment, Health and Safety (EHS), Technical Services, Sustainability and Project Management to support IHH SG's broad spectrum of facilities and businesses. His strategic objectives in this role include FM digital transformation, real estate portfolio re-optimisation, workplace transformation, infrastructure renewal and strategic outsourcing for the organisation.

    Johnny graduated from University College London (UCL) with a Master of Science (Merit) in Facilities and Environment Management, National University of Singapore (NUS) with a Master of Science in Building Performance and Sustainability, and RMIT University with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Construction Management.

    As a professional in this field, his passion lies in a myriad of areas: digital transformation, the Internet of Things, data analytics, workplace transformation, building pathology, sustainability and strategic facility management.
    Johnny is a fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and Chartered (FM) Surveyor with the RICS where he actively supports the institution's work. He is also a committee member of the WSH Council (Healthcare), and an industry mentor at Ngee Ann Polytechnic where he influences and imparts his extensive experience and knowledge to nurture future generations of Built Environment professionals.

    Evvanna Chua is a Senior Director in the CBRE Transaction Management team, managing governance and operations as well as corporate occupier client account teams. Evvanna’s extensive experience in corporate real estate has developed from years spent within client teams of IBM and Microsoft, followed by Cushman & Wakefield where she was SEA Hub Lead for Transaction Management. During this time, Evvanna has played key roles in developing and managing real estate strategies for a wide range of clients from diverse industries and sectors. Evvanna holds a Masters of Technology Management from the University of Queensland (Australia) as well as Bachelor of Building (Honors) from the National University of Singapore.

    Charmaine Tso, Vice President of the Asia Pacific Real Estate team at Credit Suisse is responsible for the management of the real estate portfolio in the region. She is a veteran of 17 years in real estate asset management with a proven track record in transaction, due diligence and executing value creation strategies across various sectors and jurisdictions. She has extensive experience in repositioning, asset and operational enhancement to drive NOI and investment returns. Prior to her current role, she also worked as an asset manager for Link REIT, CLSA Capital Partners and Pacific Star Group in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Charmaine has a background in architecture and is a Chartered Surveyor (MRICS).

    Allan Soo has a 40 year track record and a reputation for all-round property expertise, including investments, research, development planning and marketing. He set up a well-known practice, Regroup Associates in the mid 90’s, which became affiliated in 2009 with NYSE listed CBRE but which was later acquired by Savills South East Asia.
    His extensive experience stretches township and commercial developments, leasing and sale transactions, including some of the largest assets in the country. He is credited with pioneering the first al fresco dining concept in a mall in Malaysia. He is regularly sought by international fashion and F & B brands for his proprietary mapping and mobile data tool which he employs to advise on retail footprints and asset portfolios.
    His deep knowledge of retail has led him to advise on the sale of the equity interests in one of the country’s largest premium grocery chains to a private equity fund at a record price recently.

    Sr Dainna is the Director of Basar & Harun Sdn (Malaysia) and incoming President of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia

    Sr Dainna qualified as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors UK in 1992. At RICS she was organising Chair for the RICS-RISM International Surveying Conference for Undergraduate (Malaysia) and also in the RICS Cost Prediction Standard Setting Committee. She is an Accredited Examiner for the Assessment of Professional Competence.

    She was part of the Standard Setting Committee of the International Construction Management Standard (ICMS)

    Sr Dainna earned her BSc Quantity Surveying from Newcastle Upon Tyne Polythechnic, UK in 1989. As a quantity surveyor she has vast experience working locally and also internationally in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland and Bangladesh.

  • Dr Lee Nai Jia - Head of Real Estate Intelligence, Data and Software Solutions, PropertyGuru Group

    Dr Lee is the Deputy Director of Institute of Real Estate and Urban Studies, National University of Singapore. In his current role, Dr Lee develops and executes the business strategy for the institute’s industry outreach, seeking collaboration opportunities with different stakeholders in the real estate industry. Besides business development, he is also involved in the institute’s research initiatives in housing policy, food security and climate change. He also actively contributes to commentaries in both digital and print media. Prior to joining IREUS, he headed the research departments in Knight Frank Singapore and Edmund Tie & Company.

  • Julian Smith is Chartered Quantity Surveyor with over 35 years of experience in senior management and consulting positions with companies engaged in construction, specialist engineering, and commercial real estate development.

    He has been involved in some of the regions iconic developments, at all stages of the project life-cycle and also at a corporate level his remit has encompassed senior positions overseeing projects including Airports, Railways, Power Stations, Public and Commercial Real Estate Projects (including Hospitals, Hotels and Mixed Use Developments), MEPF Projects, and Marine Civil Engineering/Port Developments.

    Julian  has been based in the Asia Pacific region since 1989 and has worked in the following countries: United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, China, Thailand, the Philippines, and Japan, with exposure to projects further afield in Africa, the Middle East, the Caribbean, and Latin America.

    Ivan holds a Bachelor Degree in Real Estate from the National University of Singapore and has close to 20 years’ experience in the facilities management field. His past portfolio includes strategic business development and operations in various market segments such as Integrated Facilities Management, M&E Engineering Solutions, MCST management, car park operations, smart security solutions, cleaning services and commercial laundry. Ivan is also actively involved in SMART FM Technology adoptions and developments, and have rolled out several projects in the course of his employments that are aimed at improving service levels and savings in manpower deployments.

    Ivan’s key responsibilities involves:
