We are pleased to announce the winners for RICS Awards 2021 Hong Kong, powered by Hongkong Land.

Our jury panel has been very impressed by the quality of submissions and variety of projects reviewed this year.  We would like to thank the head juror, all jurors, nominators and everyone else who took part for their time and effort for this Awards. All finalists represent a commitment to the highest ideals of professionalism and standards from across the built environment in Hong Kong.

    Arcadis is a leading global Design & Consultancy firm and our ambition is to make a significant and positive contribution to the achievement of sustainable development.  The team delivered the Hong Kong Smart Green Building Design Best Practice Guidebook to provide practical guidelines and inspire smart green building designs and features. This publicly available handbook is not only aligned with the current Smart Plan for Hong Kong, but also includes an extensive range of industry views from a diverse group of representatives to ameliorate the adoption of the proposed practices.

  • Nominated for Refurbishment/Revitalisation Team of the Year

    Woosung Street Temporary Cooked Food Hawker Bazaar

    Woosung Street Temporary Cooked Food Hawker Bazaar transformed the rudimentary “Dai Pai Dong'' cluster into a modernised iconic building. Through skillful adoption of innovative construction approach - Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) to standardise and prefabricate major building elements, on-site construction time and resources were significantly reduced and quality assured.

    The successful delivery of this project not only brought about substantial improvement to the fire safety condition and overall business environment of the cooked food hawker bazaar, but also preserved the local culture of traditional road-side dining experience while revitalising the region by knitting local community and tourists worldwide.

    Blue Bridge

    The Blue Bridge, as known as the "Lover Bridge", located in Southern Hong Kong famous for its beauty blending in the natural environment. Stricken by Super Typhoon Mangkhut in 2018, the Blue Bridge and its surrounding facilities were seriously damaged.

    Since the Blue Bridge existed for over 50 years being part of a collective memory of many Hong Kong citizens, as requested by the LCSD, ArchSD has taken up the re-provisioning of the Blue Bridge, reinstating and improving its damaged vicinity. With the continuous efforts made the project team, the Blue Bridge was re-opened to public in February 2021.

    CBRE embraces technology and sustainability.  Facilities Management team has been playing a crucial role in office design and maintaining state-of-the arts and sustainable office operations. 

    The project achieved remarkable results that CBRE has won the Build4Asia “Interior Design of the Year” (Commercial) Award and IFMA APAC of Excellence – Innovation Award – Certificate of Excellence for Host Digital Platform in November 2020 respectively.

    We will be awarded the WELL – Gold Certificate in Q4 2021.

    With an office portfolio of over 1 million square feet spanning three buildings in Kowloon, Manulife appointed CBRE to help develop and implement a strategy to support the company’s expansion plan, introduce innovative ways of working, in addition to implementing Manulife’s new global sustainability standards

    After agreeing on a ‘3rd Hub' strategy, CBRE leased 144,000 square feet on behalf of Manulife in International Trade Tower with naming rights and significant branding opportunities.

    CBRE’s ‘ONE CBRE’ service also includes assistance with Project Management and Workplace Strategy to ensure a streamlined transition into new ways of working for Manulife.

  • Nominated for Construction Project Management Team of the Year

    North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre (HKICC), capable of providing 136 wards and 816 negative-pressure isolation beds, is a unique and unprecedented project funded by the Central Government to support the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in fighting the COVID-19.

    HKICC is HK’s first hospital built with MiC (Modular Integrated Construction) and the world's first all-MiC negative-pressure isolation hospital.

    CSHK and the ArchSD, as the construction project management team for this D&B project, successfully completed it in just 120 days with the unity and all-out effort, creating a miraculous feat in the construction history in HK.

  • Nominated for Quantity Surveying Team of the Year

    The Team consists of three RICS QS Fellow members teaching at the City University of Hong Kong. The Team has considerable professional expertise that benefits students to learn a broad spectrum of the QS profession.     The Cushman & Wakefield Hong Kong Retail Team has incubated and launched the iconic Park Aura “EATertainment” project in 2020 against unprecedented obstacles under the pandemic. The Team thought out-of-the-box to position Park Aura as a semi-retail Ginza-style dinning complex. It pioneered an asset management strategy used in mall leasing, resulting in a diversified tenant mix that brings in visitors around the clock and broadens audience penetration:

    • Visitor traffic evened out;

    Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited has partnered with JLL to manage Cyberport's facilities management, overseeing approximately 149,000 sq. m. across the portfolio of four office buildings, a retail and entertainment complex and a service annex commercial area. Since April 2020, we identified over HKD 5 million in savings across operations through an extensive procurement review. Tenant satisfaction grew by 7-11%, driven by improvements to the physical facilities, cleanliness, customer service and overall user experience, to create a vibrant community to facilitate the growth of innovative and technology-driven business in Hong Kong.

    Kerry Properties team has always focused primarily on its social and environmental impacts when delivering their values to the community, thus was nominated for the Sustainability Award. Our company laid out a wide array of sustainable initiatives such as waste management, energy usage, and wellness of the people and the community.     2020 was heavily hit by COVID-19 and many organisations looked at cutting cost but also grasping the opportunity to improve quality.  Knight Frank took an innovative approach to analyse market options for DHL, and adopted an unconventional negotiation strategy to assist DHL in sealing the deal fulfilling all of the given goals, where it concluded with 91,000 sf in International Trade Tower, signifying itself as the largest new lease acquisition in Hong Kong in 2020.

    Victoria Dockside

    New World Development, a cultural enterprise and leader in property development, infrastructure and services, retail and hotels, developed “Victoria Dockside” as a US $2.6 billion, 3 million square feet art and design district on the promenade of Hong Kong’s iconic Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront.

    The Victoria Dockside masterplan was created by acclaimed architectural firm Kohn Pedersen Fox, renowned landscape architect James Corner Field Operations in collaboration with Adrian Cheng and over 100 designers and consultants across the globe. After 10 years in the making, Victoria Dockside became the latest global art and design district for culture, creativity and innovation.

    Nominated for Corporate Social Responsibility Project of the Year

    NewWorld Mask (or #LoveWithoutBorders) is a shared value platform that embodies the vision of using the power of business to give back to society. Created at the dawn of COVID-19 when there was a global shortage of protective equipment, its team has overcome unprecedented challenges to set up local mask production lines, invent the first “Mask-To-Go” dispensers and smart redemption card system in Hong Kong, and collaborate with non-profit organisations in pioneering safe and convenient ways of distributing face masks to low-income families. In just 1 year, NewWorld Mask has donated 16M+ masks to local and overseas communities in need.

    The 3D Mobile Mapping Research Team in Smart Cities Research Institute (SCRI), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) developed a lightweight and reliable 3D mobile mapping system (mobile mapping backpack), which can easily measure cities and obtain 3D maps with centimeter-level accuracy. It can be used to build spatial data infrastructure and can thus support smart city applications in many fields. It can improve the efficiency of three-dimensional spatial data collection, reduce the impact on urban traffic during the mapping process, and reduces labor costs.

Synergizing 20 official APIs and 1 million+ transaction data, URIS offers map-based applications that automate assessments of project financial viability. Overcoming challenges with artificial intelligence, and sharing valuable data to various business units via online spatial data portal, URIS proves the concept of assimilating geo-analytics into real estate business operations.

    Urban Renewal Authority was commissioned to revitalize Central Market as a part of the “Conserving Central” initiative proposed by the HKSAR Government.

    Under various site and time constraints, the Team has opted for a minimum intervention approach to preserve the Grade 3 historic building while maintaining the accessibility of a 24-hour public passageway throughout the whole construction period.   The Team has also proliferated the use of higher dimension BIM applications to ensure effective project management and seamless cross-functional communication. Multiple smart features have been applied to promote sustainable concept and provide an approachable, energetic and gregarious place for the community.

    The Kwun Tong Town Centre Redevelopment is the largest single urban development project in Hong Kong aiming to revive the community while preserving its characteristics. The collaboration between URA as the project owner, Sino and Chinese Estates as the JV developer, and Knight Frank as the valuation and land consultant in each stage is the foundation for the successful execution of this unique project. The creative and thoughtful approach demonstrated by the team facilitated the vision for a modern, sustainable Kwun Tong Town Centre that would satisfy the local community and enrich quality of life in the area.

    Alan Choi is a motivated and innovative professional with multi-talented skills who is currently Property Manager of Emperor International Holdings Limited and Chair of the RICS Hong Kong Matrics. He specializes in acquisition and valuation, leasing and strategy planning for the Group’s investment in Hong Kong, Mainland China and overseas. In his seven years in the industry, Alan has made exceptional progress in handling several major acquisition, disposal and leasing transactions of investment properties.     Ivy Lee is the first woman Managing Director of the 300-person architectural practice, Leigh & Orange, in its entire 147 years history and she is now setting the standard for others in the construction industry.  Ivy has become a recognised industry voice and actively seeks to advance the interests of all participants through representing her vision for the future of the design profession, on numerous government, industry panels and advisory bodies.

    Michele joined the industry in 2012, she previously participated in a number of significant projects, including power substations, Xiqu Centre in West Kowloon Cultural District, office and residential developments.

    Michele was promoted to be a first female Project Manager within her Company swiftly under 9-year experiences, and was fully in charge of few recent symbolic modular integrated construction (MiC) projects in Hong Kong, including InnoCell at Hong Kong Science & Technology Park (HKSTP), Temporary Covid Quarantine Facilities at Pat Heung and Penny’s Bay for ArchSD the HKSAR Government, which have garnered over 1,400 nos. MiC modules experience in total.

    Tom Parker is a Manager in the Valuation team at Colliers.

    Tom excels consistently, both in his role providing strategic real estate advice across the Asia region and in his role as Chairman of Colliers Young Leaders Committee.

    Tom won and project managed valuations for over US$10billion worth of real estate assets in 2020 and consistently promoted the benefits of adopting international standards, including authoring an article for RICS Property Journal.

    • Demonstration of how to deliver a cost-effective option for the alterations by using life cycle costing.
    • Consideration of design for safety and ease of maintenance
    • Demonstration of creating better places and spaces for future generations.

    Research Team of the Year

    Nominated team must focus on technology research or application of technology which can benefit the building/surveying industry as a whole.

    • Nominated team must operate or station in Hong Kong.
    • Nomination must cover a research project that satisfies the date requirement in the “Award Entry Rules”.
