The need to build trust remains core to our work as professionals. How we do that is up to you.

Once we get beyond the juggling of zoom meetings, the absence of business lunches and the challenges of getting even a small team together in person, the pandemic has changed lots of things. It has changed how we relate to the world, how we relate to the space around us, and how we relate to one another.

The pandemic and the subsequent economic slowdown place a greater emphasis on the need to trust the work of professionals. Expertise is valued and the responsibility held by those sharing their expertise has never been higher. The behaviours demonstrated by professionals strengthen the confidence in that advice.

Earlier in the year, RICS began reviewing the Rules of Conduct. These standards of professionalism are familiar to all that carry an RICS qualification. They refer to competence, transparency, and the fiduciary responsibility that professionals owe to their clients. Through conversations with professionals, leaders, and clients in markets around the world, RICS has opened a consultation on a revised Rules of Conduct document that clarifies the expectations of professionals in meeting 21st century challenges.

While everything in the consultation will be familiar to RICS professionals, the document sets out expectations for professionals – calling-out specifically expectations around sustainability and responsible business. The draft further outlines how respect and inclusion serve as hallmarks of a workplace that, although different than in the past, is core to our work as a profession.

Open until December 7, 2020, members and stakeholders can find the draft document and consultation here.
