This Professional Standard applies when RICS members provide advice regarding property interests in the UK that relates to the seeking or use of compulsory purchase or other statutory powers by or against their client, or where the seeking or use of such powers is contemplated.
Importantly, it also applies when RICS members are advising a body that is relying on or seeking to rely on another body to seek or use compulsory purchase or other statutory powers to assist with a project.
The standard brings clarity to the question of what constitutes a valuation and clearly outlines the relationship between this area of practice and the RICS “Red Book”.
As with the first edition of this standard, the updated Professional standard continues to outline mandatory professional behaviours and competence that RICS expects of its members advising on this area of practice, in addition to the technical knowledge and competence required.
RICS is seeking feedback from RICS members and non-members working in this sector.
This consultation closes Friday 6th January 2023.
