RICS Awards 2021 Australia: Meet the judges

This year’s jury panel consists of 14 industry leaders who will be reviewing the nominations for the RICS Awards 2021 Australia, powered by AI Assets. Having worked with industry-leading firms and leading projects, each of the judges brings substantial local and international experience from their industry sector to the Awards. 

Chair: Murray Coleman OAM

Murray is currently with Macquarie Capital, where he is the Head of Development Projects. He was previously with Lendlease for 30 years, working in a number of senior roles across the business both in Australia and overseas. In 2012, Murray was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the building and construction industry. He is also currently a Director at the Property Industry Foundation, the National Chair of the Starlight Children's Foundation and the Chair of the RICS Australasia World Regional Board.

  • Nick Deeks FRICS

    Nick has 39 years of professional experience in the property and construction industries, working across the UK and Australia. He was appointed Managing Director of WT Australia in 2013 and joint Chairman of WT International in 2015. Nick continues to drive the strategic direction of the Australian business and is dedicated to business transformation and change within the building and construction industry. He is passionate about future-proofing our cities and is a strong advocate for important future planning initiatives in Australia. 

  • Michael Argue MRICS

    Michael has 25+ years industry experience with a strong asset management and leasing background. 

    He’s worked with Challenger/CIPAM for 17yrs, holding various roles with broad-ranging responsibilities in Australia and Europe. 

    Michael is currently Head of Asset Management for Office & Industrial at CIPAM. 

  • Hayley Gilmour FRICS

    Hayley is a Quantity Surveyor by background and has over 18 years’ experience in the UK and Australian Construction industries across a variety of projects in both building and infrastructure sectors. In her role as a Commercial Leader at Laing O’Rourke, Hayley oversees the Commercial and Contract Management of various projects across Australia.

  • Francis Lynch

    Francis is the Valuation Manager at ISPT where he is responsible co-ordinating the ISPT valuation programme and ensuring that independent valuations adhere to company policies and industry best practice. Prior to joining ISPT, Francis practiced as a valuer with a focus on commercial valuations. Francis experience includes time in London where he worked in real estate finance.

  • Glen McKernan MRICS

    Glen is a versatile property professional with over 20 years management and operational experience successfully leading teams and completing major projects to achieve stakeholder objectives. He has expertise in working closely with a diverse range of people, communities, customers, stakeholders and developing mutually beneficial relationships.

  • Anooj Oodit MRICS

    As Managing Director of Turner & Townsend’s Asia and ANZ regions, Anooj is responsible for the strategic direction and growth of the Asia and ANZ businesses.  

    He sits on Turner & Townsend’s Global Operations Board, Asia Board, ANZ Board, Korea Board and chairs the North East Asia, South East Asia and South Asia (India) Boards as well as the Real Estate, Infrastructure and Natural Resources Boards in ANZ. He also sits on Turner & Townsend’s global Purpose steering committee.   

    Since his appointment as Managing Director of ANZ in 2015, Anooj has overseen a growth of circa 60 percent of the ANZ business and a diversification program across 14 sectors, 13 offices and 6 service lines. In addition to his current role, Anooj has recently been appointed as Managing Director of Turner & Townsend’s Asia region leading an additional 17 offices and a combined team of over 1,300 people. 

    Anooj is passionate towards creating a cohesive construction industry, particularly focusing on how to enhance performance through collaboration; as well as driving efficiency resulting through the most cost-effective mutually beneficial client outcomes. He currently sits on the RICS Australasia Advisory Board and is a judge for the RICS Australia Awards as well as the PPP Awards for Asia Pacific. 

  • Dr David Parker FRICS

    Dr Parker is the Valuer General of New South Wales. He is an internationally recognised property industry expert and highly regarded property academic, being a Visiting Professor of Property at the Henley Business School, University of Reading, member of the RICS International Valuation Standards Board, Trustee of the RICS Research Trust and a regular expert witness on property funds management and property valuation matters in the Federal Court and the Supreme Court.

  • Richard Dunham Stacey FRICS

    Richard is an experienced Property Fund Manager who has held senior fund management roles in both listed and wholesale property trusts. He also has valuation, property management and commercial agency experience and is a past-Chair of RICS’s NSW Committee.. Richard has written, presented and facilitated RICS and PCA training workshops to the commercial property industry. Currently, he is Transactions Manager at AXA Investment Managers. 

  • Sandra Steele

    Sandra Steele is a Practice Group Coordinator for K&L Gates' Global Real Estate and Construction practice and a Non-Executive Director for RICS Australasia World Regional Board. She has more than 20 years' experience advising on contentious and non-contentious construction law matters. Sandra is an accredited adjudicator with RICS and Resolution Institute.

  • Greg Sugars OAM

    Greg Sugars is the CEO of Preston Rowe Paterson Australasia, one of Australia’s and New Zealand’s most experienced and well-regarded property services companies with expertise across the full spectrum of property classes. He is a Fellow of each of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Australian Property Institute, The Australian Property Institute and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. In 2015, Greg was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for his charity work.

  • John Talbot FRICS

    John has regional responsibility for leading and managing JLL’s Valuation Advisory platform across the Asia Pacific region, which encompasses 700 valuers across 13 countries. John has over 30 years’ experience in the commercial property industry working predominantly in institutional valuations, consulting, development appraisals, capital transactions and fund management. He is a member of the firms Australian Executive Committee and sits on the firm’s Global Valuation Advisory Executive Board.

  • Darren Whitelegg FRICS

    Darren is the Founder of DAHO Property which assists clients with their Real Estate solutions across Australia. With over of 35 years’ experience in Asset / Property Management, Darren has assisted major Corporates and Investors deliver their Portfolio / Property strategies. He is a current member of the RICS Oceania Advisory Board and is a regular contributor to a number industry associations. 

  • John Preece FRICS

    John is a passionate advocate for the coworking industry and joined Hub Australia as Chief Property Officer in early 2018.  In this role, John leads a team responsible for expanding Hub’s network of sites through a combination of lease acquisitions and operator management agreements, overseeing new fitout projects and refurbishments to create amazing workplaces for Hub members, ongoing portfolio management, and working closely with Hub’s corporate, enterprise and government clients to create unique workspaces for these larger occupiers. 

    John has over 20 years of experience in commercial property.  He has held a range of senior positions in global property agencies including Knight Frank and DTZ in Australia, and CBRE in Europe.  He also has a multi-disciplinary skill set, having worked across project management, occupier solutions and office leasing, as well as running Knight Frank’s full-service North Shore agency business in Sydney.  He is a Fellow of the RICS, and a licensed real estate agent.
