RICS Matrics Young Surveyor of the Year Awards 2022

The RICS Matrics Young Surveyor of the Year Awards showcase the exceptional talent within the surveying profession in the UK and recognise those who have demonstrated excellence early in their careers. These prestigious awards provide an opportunity for individuals and employers to celebrate the highest standards of professionalism and innovation within the built environment.

We are proud to announce the RICS Matrics Young Surveyor of the Year 2022, as well as all category winners for this year’s awards.

The winners were presented with their awards at the live Grand Final, at The Royal Lancaster Hotel in London, on Friday 04 November.

All winners have demonstrated industry-leading achievements, representing a commitment to the highest ideals of professionalism and standards, from across the built environment in the United Kingdom.

Apprentice of the Year:
This award showcases an apprentice who is currently enrolled on the APC and working towards or has completed a surveying apprenticeship within in the last 12 months. It recognises excellence in an individual who has made a significant contribution to the workplace; demonstrating progression in their career or is an outstanding role model/champion for apprentices.

Asset and Facilities Management:
This award acknowledges those working within facilities and asset management, corporate real estate and property management services; who have advised clients (landlords or businesses) to maximise the effectiveness and/or added value in areas including investments, tenancies or lease terms.

Building Surveying:
This award recognises outstanding achievement in all areas of building surveying and building control; an individual who has been fundamental in projects which build, restore, or develop structures, or has demonstrated drive and motivation in aspects of building regulations, health and safety or energy efficiency.

Commercial Property:
This award is designed to reward the outstanding talent of an individual who achieves exceptional results and provides quality customer service in the fields of valuing, buying, selling, or letting commercial property.

Land (Rural and Urban):
This award seeks to showcase an inspiring individual who has had a positive impact on the environment, planning or in any aspect of the management of land, including geomatics/geospatial surveying and property assets in the countryside.


Project Management:
This award distinguishes an individual with an exceptional ability to lead and manage building and civil engineering projects to achieve agreed business outcomes and demonstrate excellent communication and management skills.

Residential Property:
This award is designed to reward the outstanding talent of an individual who achieves exceptional results and provides quality customer service in residential property, to include survey and valuation for buyers, sellers and lenders, agency (sales, letting and management) and any other activity involving residential property, eg buying, selling and valuation.

Quantity Surveying and Construction:
This award showcases an individual who demonstrates evidence of strong commercial, analytical, negotiation and communication skills to achieve value for money in building and civil engineering projects.

This award looks to reward a young individual who shows excellent skills and customer service in their chosen field of valuation.

Mentor of the Year:
RICS apprentices, trainees and newly qualified professionals aged under 35 years of age, are invited to nominate those who have supported and inspired them to progress in their careers. There is no maximum age for this category, but mentors are required to be RICS qualified (Assoc or MRICS) and are not to be paid for their mentoring services.

As well as individuals entering, nominations are welcomed from employers, clients, or peers for those championing the role of a surveyor.  Employers could incorporate these awards as part of their recognition schemes, by highlighting employees within the firm, as well as externally, those who are going above and beyond within their roles.  Those nominating do not need to be members of RICS themselves, but must know the individual and their achievements well.
